SDRMA does not come trippingly off the tongue and even explaining the function of the not-for-profit public agency is not a simple task. Rochelle Kiddoo and Karen Lafferty are more than willing to try, however. The two California natives have little else in common besides their passion for their jobs and the quality that of work that they want to bring to their clients.

Karen has just celebrated 18 years with Special District Risk Management Authority. She has worked for the agency almost from the time it was formed to provide property, liability and workers’ compensation coverage protection and risk management services statewide exclusively for California public agencies. When the agency was in it’s infancy, Karen traveled to quaint Weaverville in 1989 to learn the unique business. When she was offered the chance to adjust claims, she knew that this was what she wanted to do and has been doing it ever since.

Rochelle joined SDRMA last fall and brought with her a long and varied history that skirted and finally embraced, the insurance business. Her father worked for Farmers Insurance in Santa Rosa but Rochelle was pretty sure her future was in dirt. As in gardening, her first love, even though she received her Master’s Degree in Sports Psychology with an eye to working with Olympic athletes. When she realized that her dream job required a doctorate, she rethought her goal and became a Medical Malpractice adjuster at Farmers Insurance and has continued with that for the last 12 years.
