Millie Beatie isn’t an easy woman to pin down. Her passion for pottery takes precedence on any subject and brings it back to the clay and the beautiful objects that she creates in her backyard studio.

Her hometown is Redding. Starting with Crawford & Co. and Mission Adjusters in Northern California, Millie moved to Sacramento and was hired by Russ Dawson at Industrial Indemnity as a multi-line adjuster. After four years with Industrial Indemnity, USAA beckoned and litigation work became interesting for more than fifteen years until Millie retired as the Litigation Manager this summer. Never one to sit around, Millie put her energies toward work again with Elite Investigations and is again investigating the diverse and complex claims that have highlighted her whole career.

While at USAA, Millie was sent to Hawaii to work on Hurricane Iniki with Doug Dunkly’s crew and has memories of the tough conditions and the uncomplaining attitude of the residents inconvenienced by the lack of electricity, water and shelter. Millie also worked to assist the victims of the Loma Prieta Earthquake and while she was glad to help, she admits the aftershocks that rumbled through the area were unnerving.

Millie has been an education junkie her whole life and while completing insurance related courses at Sierra College, she allowed her lifelong interest in art to lead her to a new path. From the moment she first touched clay, she says, she was thoroughly hooked. She has worked steadily to create beautiful clay objects ever since and was admitted to the prestigious Roseville Open Show last September at the 405 Gallery. She is thrilled to have sold her entry the first night of the show.

Now at Elite Investigations, Millie struggles to balance her time between her demanding work and her passion for art and allows that there is never enough time. She is currently preparing for the Loomis Library Xmas Fair December 3rd and 4th at the Veteran’s Hall and the Holiday Studio Show on December 11th. For more details on visiting her studio, Millie can be reached at 916-652-8052 and online at www.hisvesselofclay.net.
